Luke brannigan
Luke commenced his career in 1999 with a major insurer, before moving to a commercial brokerage in 2004.
2014 saw Luke joining a large adjusting firm, moving over to the HNW and London Markets team in 2016 as part of an increasing focus on this part of the business.
Luke joined Sedgwick in 2017, and qualified as a Chartered Loss Adjuster in 2018. Specialising in major domestic losses for the majority of his adjusting career, many of Luke’s cases have involved vulnerable and HNW customers.
Luke now oversees the Sedgwick’s Domestic Major Loss and Agricultural & Rural Network teams in the South East.
Luke is a member of the Future Focus CILA SIG.
Luke exford
Luke qualified as a Chartered Loss Adjuster in 1998 and has served on the CILA Council for 16 years, which includes 7 years as Chairman of the CILA Examination Committee and, as of September 2018, as CILA’s President.
Luke qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 1988 and worked in the construction industry for 10 years prior to joining a firm of loss adjusters. As a Chartered Loss Adjuster he has worked on many high profile and significant losses, including terrorist events in London; office and hotel fires; major gas explosions and floods, giving Luke significant experience in the property, retail and construction sectors.
Jane Hunter
Jane grew up on her family dairy farm in Lancashire before studying agricultural and environmental sciences. Jane is highly sought after by the UK’s leading agricultural insurers, she has established herself as the UK’s leading dairy and poultry adjuster and is nominated on numerous large and VIP client accounts.
Jane now lives in rural Somerset near Bath.
Nicola mAHER
Nicola is a partner in the litigation and insurance department of boutique London litigation firm, Edwin Coe LLP. Acting exclusively for policyholders, Nicola advises on a wide range of commercial and insurance matters, including insurance policy interpretation and coverage issues, professional negligence and cyber risk.
She has particular expertise advising policyholders in relation to substantial property damage claims and associated material damage, business interruption claims and under-insurance; assisting businesses and high net worth individuals to secure efficient resolution of claims through mediation, arbitration or litigation.
Max Perris
Max grew up in rural Somerset where he started working on a neighbouring dairy farm at age 14. In 2006 he moved to France where he spent ten years working on dairy, beef, arable, pig, poultry and tobacco farms.
Now living in West Yorkshire; Max’s role includes designing training programmes, consultancy work and client development on a national level.
harry Roberts
Harry has over 35 years’ experience as a Loss Adjuster, having previously qualified as a Chartered Accountant and a past President of CILA.
In recent years Harry has been regularly consulted by insurers, brokers and lawyers on the application of BI wordings to complex circumstances or situations. He has acted as an expert witness, as well as having claims referred to him for expert determination.
Harry is the current editor of ‘Riley on Business Interruption Insurance’. The 10th Edition was published in 2016. ‘Riley’ remains the leading text book on Business Interruption and is regularly quoted in legal cases around the world.
Garry Slater
Garry started his insurance career working part time at an Insurance Broker whilst starting his A levels in 1988. After their completion, rather than going to university to study to be a Teacher as planned, he decided to take a year out and that was that!
Garry has worked in claims within various Insurers and Loss Adjusting firms since then, specialising in fraud for circa 20 years. He has dealt with major and complex losses across all classes of business in the UK and Overseas saving millions for his insurer clients in the process. Garry has spent the last 5 years at a small innovative business looking after Surveying, Adjusting and of course Fraud. During this time he has been constantly looking at alternative solutions for fraud identification and investigation aligning to client needs and expectations, utilising the best technological solutions alongside expertise to ensure delivery.
Alex Wakefield
Alex joined McLarens Private Clients in May 2018, having devoted much of the last decade to working in the Private Clients field, both with Cunningham Lindsey and QuestGates.
Alex specialises in claims from across the High Net Worth and Ultra High Net Worth spectrum, both buildings and contents related and manages a focused portfolio of work for a large variety of Principals. Alex has a personal interest in the world of horology and has over the last 20 years built a collection of modern and antique wristwatches.
Gerald williams
Gerald has recently retired having spent nearly 45 years working as a Business Interruption Loss Adjuster/Insurance Claims Consultant, the last 17 of which were with FitzGerald Consulting Limited when he worked all over the world on a wide variety of accountancy related assignments, both for insurers and policyholders.
Until his retirement at the end of 2018 he was a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and remains a Fellow and past President of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters.
Melissa cunningham
Melissa is a Vice President in Marsh’s Financial Advisory Services practice in London. She manages complex claims for insured clients in the UK and overseas. She also performs pre-loss business interruption reviews, working with clients to assist them in understanding their losses and insurance requirements.
As a dual qualified accountant and loss adjuster, she brings a perspective that covers all components of insurance losses across property damage and business interruption. She works across many industries including manufacturing, retail, technology and financial services.
Melissa is a member of the CILA Claimant SIG and has presented for the Institute several times on Business Interruption topics.
Roger Franklin
Roger practises in Commercial Litigation, specialising in Insurance law and Heads up the Insurance Litigation Group. Roger qualified in 1999 and became a partner in 2005. He has acted on disputes in the UK, Europe and the United States. He has represented both claimants and defendants in a wide variety of commercial insurance matters, including professional negligence, directors’ and officers’ liability, shareholder claims and general liability and coverage disputes.
Roger also represents financial services professionals on discrete aspects of the regulatory regime, and acts for firms and individuals in the course of FCA investigations and enforcement proceedings.
Graham lee
Graham is an experienced Chartered Architect. He joined BRE 5 years ago and has become increasingly involved in providing an auditing service of coordinated facade detailing to building teams prior to construction, examining design information and attending workshops to advise on statutory compliance and good practice.
In addition to pre-construction work, he has also provided extensive services in the diagnosis and expert reporting of building defects that may be used in litigation. This work includes the identification, testing and establishment of failures as well as investigation of contractual liability.
He is a corporate member of the Expert Witness Institute.
Glen Marr
Glen’s role with IBM features supporting insurance industry clients across Europe to enhance the management of fraud, by using multi-layered analytics and machine learning, and assisting optimise operational fraud strategy.
Well known in the Industry for his domain expertise and knowledge, Glen has spent 30 years dealing with insurance fraud in the UK, Europe and Australia, at Executive, Senior and Operational Management, hands-on Investigator and industry Strategy level, including as Director of the Insurance Fraud Bureau. Glen has formed part of industry initiatives that have become milestone deliveries and appeared on national television as an industry expert.
Paul Redington
Starting his insurance career as a graduate trainee Paul has been handling customer’s losses for over 28 years. His claims experience at some of the UK’s leading Insurers has also included managing large Motor, Casualty & Professional Indemnity exposures.
Paul joined Zurich in 2010 to a role involving the rapid response to large property claims - including serious fires, floods & explosions. Paul assists with political lobbying on some of the big issues currently facing Zurich UK’s clients. These include the challenges around metal theft, commercial squatting and fly-tipping. He also contributes to the company’s output on various risk topics, sharing insight & loss management advice.
Paul is currently Deputy Chairman of the CILA Property SIG.
Jonathan samuelson
Jonathan Samuelson is rumoured to have been recruited at Cambridge by MI6 and, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in his spare time, joined their Special Operations Group before being seconded to the SAS. Claiming to have been injured whilst on active service after being parachuted into action, Jonathan decided only a career in loss assessing would provide the excitement he needed. He concentrates on large and complex business interruption claims. He has given many talks and lectures to CILA and Insurance Institute meetings and was an active contributor to the CILA/IIL BI policy wordings book.
He still carries out occasional covert duties for the Security Services but it would be inappropriate to elaborate on this further.
sue taylor
Sue is not only a Gemini by star sign but also has two main roles at specialist insurance broker Miller. She provides major and complex loss claims consultancy services to global clients, and she designs global programmes and writes bespoke Property and BI wordings for multinational businesses including their Captives.
Sue is an acknowledged author of insurance texts and is learning to speak Serbian in her spare time!
Mike weatherhead
Mike began his career in loss adjusting in 1976 in West Yorkshire, subsequently transferring to Greater Manchester where he spent nearly 30 years dealing with commercial property claims, particularly major losses throughout the region and abroad.
As well as his wealth of practical experience, Mike has published papers on a variety of topics, perhaps most notably issues concerning claims involving landlords and tenants. He is also currently chairman of the CILA Property SIG.
